KOGUVA VILLAGE

Come and experience idyllic Muhu island in old Koguva fishing village, an old fishing village. The village is a canditate for UNESCO world heritage site.

"The village is resonant with history, the views are straight out of a fairy tale: the narrow sandy lane winds through a canopy of ash and maple trees, velvet-green moss covers the stone walls; the houses and outbuildings are thatched, the gardens full of knobbly apple trees and yellow buttercups. Finally the village lanes turn into cart tracks leading to pastures with juniper trees, whilst the windmill’s grey outline can be seen on the sea shore.

Koguva is a museum village, but people live here: this is shown by the meticulous stacks of firewood, the rows of flatfish hanging to dry, and two horses that watch us from behind the gate. An old woman busies herself putting a wire fence round her hens, and the hens cluck contentedly round her ankles.

After the museum village we have our picnic in a grove of oaks and aspen, with wild boar foraging in the undergrowth. The sun’s rays warm us and the robin sings."
